Pokemon 251: I Politoed Ya So!

Pokemon Company

Airdate: May 23, 2002

Summary: Brock is eagerly feeding our heroes’ Pokemon some food, Cyndaquil indicates that it is too spicy while Politoed just sits there and claps. Everyone falls asleep, but Politoed wakes up and follows a fallen rice ball down a hill. He runs into a lady who calls him Bean, and wonders where their red headband is, so she walks Politoed to her studio. The other Pokemon at the studio indicate that Politoed isn’t Bean, but she likes how when Politoed claps the other Pokemon move with the beat. Our heroes realize that Politoed is missing, so they start to find it but fall into a Team Rocket patented hole, but this time Team Rocket puts a cover on the hole which could in theory kill them, not very PG. Just when the lid is on, the real Bean the Politoed with the red headband licks Meowth. Team Rocket offers Bean a membership in their organization, but the heroes climb out of the hole and call Team Rocket liars when they mention they get vacations and a pension. Bean leads our heroes to the studio, where Misty’s Politoed is leading the cheers of this Pokemon cheerleading team. The lady dismisses Bean saying it has been replaced by Misty’s Politoed. The lady introduces herself as Tammy, Bean is jealous of Politoed while Politoed continues to lead the cheerleading team. Misty makes it her mission for Bean and Tammy to reconnect, but both are too stubborn. Bean is by itself leading fake cheers, Pikachu is making Bean laugh but Ash’s presence makes it run away. Tammy’s Pokemon fall on one of their routines, Tammy goes berserk on the whole squad, so Misty chastises her while Politoed cheers everyone up. Tammy reflects and remembers how happy and nice a coach she was before the run up to the competition, and regrets being a jerk. Just when she realizes, Team Rocket comes out with a Politoed robot and steals everyone, including the Pokemon, but Bean’s Water Gun frees them. Tammy apologizes to Bean and they come closer than ever. Both Politoed’s work together to blast Team Rocket off with the help of Pikachu using Thunderbolt on Team Rocket’s wet Politoed machine. Tammy and crew are ready for the competition and our heroes are off the Ice Cave!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Politoed, both Misty’s and Beans.. What a great Pokemon!

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Tammy, good reflection but if you run your own Pokemon out of town you have some issues to work through.

One thing I learned: A good spirit can help mend a broken one.

Who is that Pokémon?: Totodile, an OG favorite of mine, Feraligatr Ice Punch is a broken playthrough mon in this evolution line.

Best Quote: “Ra, Sisboomba” – James’ impression of cheerleading.. Odd.

Best Scene: Team Rocket fantasizing that these Pokemon cheerleaders will impress Giovanni… I don’t think so guys.
