Pokemon 264: You’re a Star, Larvitar!

Pokemon Company

Airdate: August 22, 2002

Summary: Our heroes stop at the base of Mt. Silver where there is a Pokemon Center. Larvitar seems to have gained some self-confidence, while Ash calls Elm who tells him to meet a guy named Mason. Ash gets challenged to a battle by a boy named Satchel. Satchel chooses Magby while Ash chooses Cyndaquil. Magby uses Flamethrower while Cyndaquil uses Quick Attack, Cyndaquil sends a Swift at Magby then a Flamethrower, but Magby counters with his own. Both Flamethrowers hit hard but Cyndaquil’s Tackle puts it right into a Magby Double Team. Cyndaquil searches for Magby but is caught behind it and is hit by a big Dynamic Punch which knocks it out. Satchel explains the strength of the Silver Conference before everyone takes a rest by the pool. While relaxing, Ash sees a trainer using a Quilava… and Ash doesn’t know what it is… yikes brother. Team Rocket scouts out the evolved Pokemon training near them, while Larvitar stumbles out into the training field. Everyone takes an interest in Larvitar as Ash is training his Pokemon up, Ash sees this and runs to rescue it. Ash gets sucked up along with the Pokemon and transported to a warehouse a bit away, but Larvitar escapes capture. Larvitar sabotages the truck by biting the tire and digs into the house to see Ash. Larvitar chews the rope holding Ash, but Ash chastises him. Larvitar sneaks into the truck and tells everyone how to get out of the trap while James struggles with the tire. The Pokemon escape and hide while Team Rocket investigates, Ash battles Team Rocket with Noctowl who swoops in with Pikachu and friends. Magby’s Flamethrower is too much for Team Rocket along with all of Ash’s Pokemon chipping in. Arbok gets a real whooping from Magby, who evolves in Magmar just in time for the Silver Conference. Magmar sends a Flamethrower that burns Team Rocket and sends them packing with the help of Cyndaquil. Ash says goodbye to Satchel, maybe we will see you in the Silver Conference!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Larvitar, he is the star of this show 100%.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, good plan and terrible execution.

One thing I learned: Jessie will abuse her Pokemon to no ends, even swinging Arbok’s tail like a bat.

Who is that Pokémon?: Entei, my middle favorite Johto dog after Suicune but still a top-100 favorite Pokemon.

Best Quote: “I don’t think we are ready yet” – Ash, I love his commitment to getting better right before the Silver Conference.

Best Scene: James changing the tire while Jessie is on a beach chair, classic.
