Summary: Our heroes are close to the preserve when a black and purple wormhole opens up and drops an Unown down. Unown hits Misty in the face which lets her feel what Unown is feeling, so Ash picks it up and it feels warm. Larvitar and our heroes try and make Unown comfortable by the campfire, Brock tells them of Unown’s telepathic talents. Team Rocket scouts from above and plans on stealing Unown. The sun is up and Larvitar wakes Ash up, Unown is flying around all chipper. Larvitar makes friends with Unown, and defends it from Team Rocket with a tough Hidden Power move. Wobbuffet uses Counter but Unown uses a move that transports our heroes to another dimension. Ash wakes up and is inside Larvitar’s Egg with Brock and Misty. A massive Pikachu walks up to the egg along with Togepi. The Electabuzz theme song plays, un-hot fire entraps our heroes, Magby shows up, Slowking shells dance in the sky, this is a 60’s psychedelic song of a journey through someone’s imagination. Brock figures out that Larvitar’s mind is where they are traveling, Ash is in color but Brock and Misty are black/white and fuzzy. Pikachu, Togepi and the gang get sucked up into a deeper memory, where Larvitar indicates it is scared as a machine tries to steal it as an egg. You hear Tyranitar’s cry as the thieves take the egg from her child, leaving Tyranitar injured and without child. Larvitar is represented as cut off inside an emotional cage, struggling to escape. Ash struggles but breaks through Larvitar’s symbolic inner struggles and into the real world right back where they started. Unown says hello to Larvitar again, and Larvitar finally shows some affection towards Brock and Misty. Unown exits back into its dimension, goodbye you psychic letter! Onto the preserve and the Silver Conference.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Larvitar, standing up for Unown after going through all the crap it did is commendable.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Those poachers, we will see them next episode but I am pre-empting the screw these guys. Those bastards.
One thing I learned: Brock could be a psychotherapist in another life.
Who is that Pokémon?: Moltres, My least favorite bird of the three but a solid one nonetheless.
Best Quote: “I can see all the pain, all the sadness” – Ash, always connected emotionally to his Pokemon.
Best Scene: Ash trying to break the glass so Larvitar can escape its emotional turmoil. This scene is shot a lot like the 1st movie, but with the 4th movie’s music.
