Summary: Our crew battles a kid with a Beedrill, Ash and Pikachu defeat Pikachu. As they walk down the road, they spot a large Zigzagoon looking at a group of Zigzagoon, Sentret, and Pinsir. The larger Zigzagoon ends up being a human who wants to catch his Zigzagoon with his Mudkip, May and Max confirm he is human. The guy named Nicolai says he loves that May and Max wear knickers like he does. He is a naturalist trainer who exposes his knees.. Sick. Nicolai says he wants to challenge the Petalburg Gym. Nicolai wants to challenge May to see if he can defeat a child of the gym leader, saying if she doesn’t do it then she is afraid. Nicolai uses his Mudkip and changes into a suit to match, while May sends her Torchic. May doesn’t know how to handle Torchic, using an Ember that misses and a Peck from straight on that makes Torchic faint with one Water Gun. Nicolai says getting a Petelburg Gym badge will be a piece of cake if her dad is as good as her, Max is about to rage quit. Max follows Nicolai, who is using fruit to get the Zigzagoon to come out, our crew is looking for Max so Ash uses his Taillow. Max is surrounded by Zigzagoon because he grabs too much fruit to attract them away from Nicolai. Ash is about to fire a Thunderbolt at the Zigzagoon, but Brock feeds them instead. The Zigzagoon are pissed, but Nicolai gets them to leave and go to another area where there are cherries. Max is impressed and wants to know how Nicolai can speak Zigzagoon… and he says he just speaks with his heart. He challenges a Zigzagoon to a battle with his Mudkip, who puts up a good fight with a Tackle attack, but Mudkip hits it and weakens it enough to capture it. Team Rocket appears and captures Nicolai’s Mudkip while hitting joke after joke about Naturalists. Nicolai becomes an Aipom, the Zigzagoon starts to dig into the ground, Nicolai jumps to become a Gligar, grabs his Mudkip back, before Taillow uses Peck and Pikachu uses Thunder to send their balloon flying. Nicolai challenges Ash to a battle with his Zigzagoon against Ash’s Taillow.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Nicolai, he is really weird but I like how committed he is to the bit. Bit of an asshole though but Max needed a bit of a comedown.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: May, she will get better and be the best trainer someday… not today.
One thing I learned: Zigzagoon love fruit, and so do I!
Who is that Pokémon?: Yanma, love Yanma and Yanmega… although they serve almost zero purpose in Gold/Silver.
