Pokemon Company
Airdate: January 30, 2003
Summary: Our crew is on their way to Rustboro when they see a gym with the “world’s most powerful Pokemon.” They run into a young kid who lost a battle at the gym, who says that it isn’t possible what a Pokemon in that gym did to him. A greaser type named Anthony comes out after Ash challenges him. Anthony has a Pelipper, he says there is no way he will lose and that Ash can use any Pokemon he would like. Ash sends out Treecko who gets beat by Pelipper when it somehow uses a Vine Whip.. which Max says is impossible. Ash now sends his Taillow to use a Peck attack, but Pelipper uses Flemathrower… again very odd, but he knocks out Taillow. Ash finally sends out Pikachu, we see a shot of a Pokeball opening in Pelipper’s mouth, they both use Thunderbolt, get hit, and faint. Anthony is in his home, worries about Pelipper and how it feels, when Team Rocket comes in and fights Pelipper. Through their battle they reveal the Pelipper was filled with a Magnemite, Magby, and Bellsprout. Team Rocket threatens to tell on Anthony, who gives in. Meanwhile, all of Ash’s Pokemon are rested and ready to go. Ash learns that Anthony started taking people’s Pokemon when they lose to a new Team Rocket operation. Team Rocket steals a beefy guy’s Zigzagoon right when the crew shows up and challenges Pelipper to a battle. Team Rocket battles with Pelipper against Pikachu, using the typical Vine Whip, Flamethrower, etc. while Max goes to figure out what’s going on. Max walks into Anthony’s house and finds him all tied up, he unties him and they run out to spill the beans to the crew. Anthony spills the beans and flies away with all of the trainer’s Pokeballs. Anthony commands Pelipper to give the balls back, he is able to retrieve them. Pikachu sends our heroes flying with Pelipper, Anthony learns to trust Pelipper.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Max, he caught that bs right when it started, the sham Pelipper was a good call.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Anthony, gotta love and respect your Pokemon enough to ride with them whether they are good or not.
One thing I learned: Max is young and a bit immature but has a keen eye.
Who is that Pokémon?: Unown (P), both gimmicky and a big who cares.
Best Quote: “Why don’t you try and beat my Zigzagoon?” – Big Strong Guy #2… yeah that was going to be pretty easy my guy.
Best Scene: Not too many in this one, but I would say Team Rocket’s purple suits, or Anthony’s pseudo-New Jersey accent.
