Summary: Here we go, a one-episode gym battle… this is going to get spicy. Clair starts with the old reliable, Kingdra. Snorlax…. Wait what? SNORLAX! Here we go, Snorlax starts with a Hyper Beam which.. Just cuts away and never happens, weird. Kingdra’s Agility, Hydro Pump, etc. don’t work too well but do get Snorlax off balance for once. Meanwhile, Liza and Charla are eating lunch outside. Snorlax dives into the water to dodge a Hyper Beam and uses Body Slam to take Kingdra into the water, but that gives Kingdra an advantage. Snorlax bounds out of the pool, Kingdra uses a Swift attack but is getting worn down as Snorlax just takes little hits. Snorlax gives Kingdra an Ice Punch and knocks it out, how did it learn that? Oak must have been on one. Team Rocket gets their obligatory spot in the sunshine but of course they flush themselves out of the lake to quickly get out of the episode. Clair brings out Gyrados, Gyrados’ Dragonbreath gets a paralysis on Snorlax before cooking it with a Hyper Beam. A Wynaut takes Charla’s food, a weird action break. Anyways.. Pikachu comes out and gives Gyrados a Quick Attack/Thunderbolt combo, but Gyrados’ Dragonbreath stops the bolt. Pikachu gets a direct attack with Thunderbolt, but this dragon is sturdy and keeps using Bite attacks until it has the electric rodent cornered, however Pikachu uses Agility and runs up a Hydro Pump to give a critical hit via Thunderbolt, knocking Gyrados out. Team Rocket climbs up from the tunnels under Blackthorn in search of a Dragon Fang, only to find Charla who blasts it away. Clair brings Dragonair out, who after a few Thunderbolt’s hits Pikachu with a Hyper Beam knocking it out. Now it is 1 v 1 for the rest of the battle, Dragonair hits Charizard with some strong attacks but Fire Spin counters these well, and Flamethrower/Fire Spin gets the water to evaporate, giving our fire dragon the advantage. Dragonair gives Charizard a tough Iron Tail but here comes the Seismic Toss signature move, which is made more difficult with Dragonair’s Dragon Rage. Dragonair shrugs off the Seismic Toss, but Charizard is motivated and strong, using Flamethrower and Seismic Toss again but this time uses Fire Spin to nullify the Dragon Rage and finish his physical toss. When the dust settles, Dragonair faints.. And just like his first badge, Charizard brings Ash a victory and a badge.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Charizard, I love seeing the relationship between Charizard and Ash. Ash may be a Charizard merchant, but I do love that connection, he earned it.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Kingdra, it got bodied pretty quickly this time for such a powerful Pokemon.
One thing I learned: Anytime you have fire meet fire, throw in a seismic toss.
Who is that Pokémon?: Muk, used to hate it but now I like it, especially with Alolan
Muk.
